What happens next after the final interview? If you made it to the final interview, wow congrats, you are 1 of the 1000 people that got selected.
Now the worst part, the waiting. Emirates recruiters tell you the waiting time for the call if you got selected is usually 4-6 weeks but prepared to wait at least 8-10 weeks but in some cases when lucky they can even call you within 2 weeks.
I did my recuitement on November 26 2013 and got called 5 January 2014, and let me tell you, those weeks felt like ages. So just breath, continue whatever you are doing because in case Emirates calls you, you have at least 6-8 more weeks left till you are sent to Dubai, UAE.
I was flying February 28th 2014 to Dubai by Emirates where my adventure started. Since I spend half my childhood in the UAE I knew a bit what to expect but there was one thing where I was not very happy about; the location of my accommodation. As a regular visitor of Dubai I knew where I wanted to be and where my friends were living so when you are placed in the desert my enthousiasm went down fast.
Luckily there are the typical Facebook pages where you can beg people Emirates crew to take you into their home. For example if your best friend is living in Building 1, room A and her roommate lives in room B but is moving, your best friend can sign you in the room. And voila you moved from your old apartment into a new one with your best friend. After a lot of struggle I moved 6 months later in the apartment I always dreamed of, next to Burj Khalifa.
Just a reminder, most people are placed into a house with 1/2 roommates. In a lot of cases you will not always like your roommate but just remember that you are sleeping most of your days in hotels and in worst case you can always move out.
The day after you arrive which is usually a Sunday (Sunday is Monday in the middle east) you meet with your batch and you receive your staff number: 430994, remember this number because that your identification, not your name, just your staff number. The next couple of days will be all dedicated to introduction, meeting your manager, setting up your bank account and introducing yourself to the arabic culture.
After the introduction, the real work starts, the training. More about that in my next Emirates post.
